Throughout my life I have always seen myself as incredibly weak. I was ashamed of who I really was, and so I built walls and shut people out who made me feel vulnerable. I became so fixated on the idea of being strong that I live in constant fear of being exposed, which I have come to realize is what made me weak in the first place.
This piece serves as a new start for me, and it also represents me coming to terms with my ability to be transparent and vulnerable while also being strong. It represents the struggle between being who I am and who I want to appear to be. My figure is in a very closed position, as if hiding, but my true self can be seen through it. The colorful hair represents my first step into merging my two identities.
